£1 billion for C&RT
Environment Minister, Richard Benyon, announced today (31 January 2012) that C&RT will be given over £1 billion of Government help to give it the best possible start. Full details on the Defra website here.
Bramble appeal
Good news! Local community newspaper, The Shuttle, has launched an appeal to raise £7,000 for the restoration of the Bramble by volunteers at Stourport Canal Basins. Read their story here.
Saturn Project receives £4,000 Grant
The Saturn Project has received a major grant of £4,000 from The Waterways Trust. The grant will be mainly used towards the Shropshire Union Fly-boat Restoration Society’s (SUFBRS) future educational programme, including visual aids, for which a Heritage Lottery grant application has recently been turned down.
BW gets new name
It was announced on Thursday 6 October 2011 that the new charity to replace BW will be called the Canal and River Trust. Its governing council will consist initially of 35 members - 5 drawn from private boaters, 4 from boating businesses, 1 from volunteers (WRG) and 2 from the historic environment (one each from The Institute of Historic Building Conservation and The Railway & Canal Historical Society).
